Queensland ran a statewide Year of Accessible Tourism, is investing ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Paralympic Games, and it shows on the ground. Not everywhere is perfect; this guide is honest about where it is and isn't.

Brisbane & South East

Airtrain runs level-access from Brisbane Airport to the city in 20 minutes and connects to the Gold Coast. CityCat ferries use accessible terminals along the river, and the G:link light rail boards level from raised platforms end to end.

Tropical North

Cairns is compact with a flat, boardwalked esplanade. Reef operators depart from an accessible marina; distances in the north make private WAV transfers the comfortable default, and we pre-book them.

When to go

May to October: the dry season sweet spot

Mild heat and humidity statewide, prime reef conditions, and the kindest months for fatigue and heat-sensitive travellers. In school holidays we add quiet-hour sessions and early entries to keep sensory load down.

November to April: the tropical wet, managed

Hot and humid in the north with stinger season on tropical beaches, where netted enclosures and pools are the swim options. The South East stays very workable with paced, air-conditioned days.
